The Armed Forces Epidemiological Board (AFEB) serves as a continuing scientific advisory body to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs and the military Surgeons General. The Board is composed of approximately 15-20 members selected on the basis of their nationally recognized competence in the fields allied to the functions of the Board. The AFEB has three formal continuing subcommittees: Disease Control, Occupational and Environmental Health, and Health Maintenance and Promotion.
